I wiah UDO would have the same attitude as the late Mike Howe. What do you mean exactly? That the band would come after the gig to see the fans, i.e. and not to have these VIP things which cost a fortune. Fans are the ground for bands: without fans the bands would not have any audience at the gigs.

In a way I understand these expensive VIP things, because it is not easy for the bands nowadays.

Agree with you totally. Earlier ACCEPT made it in the fan-friendly way but nowadays they do these VIP thing too. Well, I got to see Wolf, Mark, Uwe and Philip after the latest show in Finland - without paying anything extra. And I respect Wolf for that. He make it so, that I could meet Wolf and some other members. This procedure however changed after some certain woman left. A woman who always said: respect the fans, they pay your bills.

The world of Heavy Metal lost a lot with Gaby's retirement.

well, i see that UDO is having a VIP ticket sale for the meet and greet after the shows here in the US. i'd love to sit down and talk to him again, it's been a very long time for me, but i'm not going to pay extra just to talk to someone. so i'm still thinking if i'm even going to go to the show now. today, i feel like i won't but that will probably change a few times before the show gets here.

I doubt you could sit down and talk to him. As far as I can see, this is more of a "put your stuff here (up to 5 pieces) that you want me to sign, let's take a picture and goodbye" opportunity.

that's too bad. maybe it'll be different here since the club only holds about 150 - 200 people and i doubt the place will even be full.

Btw, when Powerwolf was in Finland for the first time. They came to the bar section after the show to meet the fans. They were cool guys.

In the band's defense, and admittedly not a very popular position, but it is extremely expensive for them to put together an American tour given the state of worldwide economics (e.g., inflation, difficulty to secure tour buses, etc.), and since touring is the economic lifeblood of bands now and many venues now take cuts of merch sales from bands, I see these VIP sessions as one of the only ways to make it economically viable for a band like U.D.O. to tour the U.S. I think this is the case for a lot of European bands that we love that have at best cult followings in the U.S. The alternative would be for these bands to just not tour in the U.S., which is what the majority of them have elected to do, or like Powerwolf or Helloween come here but only play a select few dates (e.g., 6-8 shows). That's why I for one have decided to pay for V.I.P. passes for the show in San Antonio.

You don't have to explain, Doc Everyone has the right to decide whether to pay for VIP meetings or not.

When I was a pre-teen and a teenager I tried to spread the good news/gospel about the greatest metal band Accept in the world. Maybe that is not a big deal, but some teenagers get to know that band in Tampere surroundings from 1982, 1983 forward... Now tens of years later we can spread the word via internet. That kind of things may increase the popularity of a band. I think maybe even easier than in the times of internet.
