i'm back now. it was an eye opening experience that is for sure. they had a celebration of his life party on tuesday night. there were over 250 people there, and many more down the hall and around the corner who could not get in! i had no idea that this man had touched so many lives. my view on him has stayed the same but yet changed at the same time. my last thoughts to him as they sealed the coffin were "forgiven, forgotten, forever." i no longer will be bitter or hold a grudge against the man. it was both of our faults that we did not talk for the last 23 years. i thought i was mostly guilty in that, but i was told by those closest to him not to feel bad. it is a two way street. he could've just as easily contacted me too. but it is all in the past. i hope he will always be beside me now in spirit. he was a very hard worker in all of his jobs and also a great musician. very dedicated to his guitar playing especially johnny cash songs. you can see and hear his last band at www.myspace.com/coldhardcashmt. working with the 3 younger guys to help get their careers started. he really was something to those around him. i have much more respect for that now. i didn't think this would change me one bit. but it has. i saw much more than a dead man laying in a coffin while i was there. i saw the lives of all the people that he touched and realized that i'd been very selfish all these years. that will stop. i don't want to get too mushy here but i feel like this was a life changing experience for me. i'll use it for the powers of good and not evil!! now i'm ready to move on and i feel stronger for what i've seen and learned the last week. now i have to go play for about 10,000 people up in cave creek arizona for some big deal that town in having. the brandon shepard and the redneck revolution band was hand picked for this event. and the last song of the night, i'll sing johnny cash "folsom prison blues" and raise a toast of diet 7up, my fathers favorite drink, and move on with the rest of my life. a better person than i was a week ago. here's to you John E. Burrey! R.I.P. and as forest gump once said... "that's all i've got to say about that!"
