So, the annual thread is here once again. What were the best albums in 2019 in your mind? I think I am able to make at least top 5 album list. Maybe top 10 list is too hard to do, but I'll see what happens. I can reveal that two albums are clearly the best albums of the year 2019. Then there is sort of a gap after them. Both top 2 albums will be from Finnish bands.

My view is : 1. Battle Best “No more Hollywood endings” - too soft for its productions but good in composition and singing. As I have attended their gig and I ve been listening to them, its No1 2. Overkill - The wings of war 3. Sinner - Santa Muerte. 4. Beast in Black - actually I do not like it cause its not metal and production is too sinthetic. But this band can make great melodies and is very good in arrangement. No5 ? To me , this year is only 4 This year I was digging out discography of Sinner and Valdemar. Just like previous year I did it to Primal Fear years.

looking through the list, the only ones i have enjoyed are
Anthem - Nucleus Crazy Lixx - Forever Wild Gloryhammer - Legends From Beyond The Galactic Terrorvortex
albums i almost bought and am glad i didn't after hearing them: Hammerfall - Dominion Sabaton - The Great War Avalon - Return To Eden Steel Panther - Heavy Metal Rules Beast In Black - From Hell With Love Battle Beast - No More Hollywood Endings
albums i wish i had bought: Pretty Maids - Undress Your Madness
yeah, now that you mention it, it was a pretty lame year for new music in our genre. i have also really gotten into a few bands from the past and their back catalog, most notably, Vhaldemar. they are my new favorite band. let's hope 2020 is better!

Normally you and me have the same kind of taste, but in Beast In Black we differ quite much. Can't you enjoy of this tune for example?
Does music get any more trad. metal than this?

I could recommend the newest one from Tygers Of Pan Tang (Ritual is the name of the album):

Does music get any more trad. metal than this? yeah, that song is tolerable for me. i do like it. but i've listened to that album a few times through on youtube and just can't get into it even though i absolutely love their drummer and of course kasperi. i think there's still just too much overly produced and disco sort of feel that i'm just not into. maybe too much keyboard or they're mixed too high, i don't know. maybe this album will hit me somewhere down the road. that has happened many times in the past.

To me it is easy to name that one album that I liked in 2019. It was The Eighth Mountain by Rhapsody of Fire.

yes tomcat, you seem to like that more symphonic, or keyboard driven type of music?

yes tomcat, you seem to like that more symphonic, or keyboard driven type of music? Not the whole genree, but Rhapsody for example had a huge impact on me. What HammerFall was for others (brought beck Heavy Metal to life, blah, blah) was Rhapsody for me.

I've been "working" on making a list of the best albums in 2019. It seems that I am not able to do a top 10 list. Top 5 list is easier to make, even though three/four good albums won't make to the the list. Crystal Eyes, Metal De Facto, Crazy Lixx and Tygers Of Pan Tang are the bands I had to drop out. I could have made a top 9 list, but I chose it to be either top 5 or top 10 list. Funny thing is that the top 5 albums are either from Finland, Sweden or Germany. At the same time those are the countries that in my mind produce the best metal/hard rock bands. However it was really close to Tygers Of Pan Tang to make it to the top 5. They are from England.

I think you're right about Finland, Sweden and Germany. Even though my winner (Rhapsody) has Italian origin.

Positive surprise for me was Freedom Call and their album M.E.T.A.L. They have never before reached top 5 position in my top albums list. Now they did. It is great that some old bands still develop/write good albums.
