ok, so he's had 3 doses of chemo radiation so far. the swelling has gone way down in his leg and he's feeling much better. he goes for 3 more treatments in about a week and a half. hopefully that kills that sh*t.

Cancer is a scourge, both physically and mentally. The good thing with Bruce is that it was caught early, as opposed to RJD, whose cancer was more advanced and was also much more aggressive (gastrointestinal cancers such as stomach, pancreatic, biliary, some forms of colon cancer and liver cancer tend to be very aggressive with 5 year survival rates well below 50%). John, I hope your friend is doing well. Also, my belated condolences regarding your uncle, Csaba.

Cancer is touches all of our lives.
I have no memories of my maternal grandmother, who died of cancer when I was 2. My paternal grandmother died when my father was a boy from gastric cancer. The same form of aggressive disease took my biggest musical hero whose voice, melodies and lyrics spurred my imagination and served as the soundtrack to most of my life, Ronnie James Dio.
This week, my senior research mentor at work (essentially the father of my entire career), and a truly exceptional man, who has been battling a recurrence of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma since last summer, was hospitalized with pneumonia and aggressive progression of his cancer, having failed the experimental chemotherapy regimen he had received. At this point, if all goes well, he is going to be discharged home with home hospice care to live out the last few days of his life in the comfort of his home with his family. It is incredibly sad.
Yes, d**n you cancer!
