Here is the exclusive interview of Andrey Smirnov taken from drugmetal.ru/blog/shestkie_terki/25398.html#cut
So I will translate some interesting parts.
Q- Andrey, tell us how all of these events were taking place. A- it's just rather simple but unusual. It's not a Cinderella story but there something mutual. It all started when I saw the news that the band was looking for a new guitar and everybody can write. So , having a big résumé, I decided to try and send the materials to friendly German camp. What I got back was a standard " best regards " so I forgot about the point. Some time later I got another e- mail asking to records demo with some hits of UDO+Accept . I was on tour that week so I learned all if the asked tracks right in hotel. Having come back to Moscow I did it all in studio. All the rest is known officially, though I didn't believe in success- for instance ,even a flight from Russia to Germany is the same as expenses of 2 or 3 Europeans guitarists- but it was destinee.
Q- What are the plans for Your band Everlost with 12 years of its carrier? A- Now it's frozen and its time to recharge batteries.
Q - Do You have enough time and energy to develop Evelost further on? A- Inalways have been involved in several project at one and the same time, though it was much more comfortable to have a rest with a bottle of beer. I an sure that some UDO fans will like Everlost or my solo album- but ,anyway, each of the projects has its own way.
Q - Please tell us about Your part in the coming Steelhammer album. A- Almost all the processes were controlled by 2 men- Udo and Fitty Wienhold. When I arrived the base of material was ready so I was just to perform it in a descent way.Forvsure, some ideas needed in development- so I can say that what I did was guitar arrangements. The release will be not typical for UDO because Stephan Kauffmann did not take part but I have no doubts that the audience will like the album.
Q- When did You joined the band directly? A- I was on Eouropean tour with Blaze Bailey and Paul Di Anno and guys from UDO just took me . In fact it was the first day of our live cooperation and it all started well.

Q- Did Yu like Accept or Udo ? A- Of cause, in fact it Accept was the first metal band that I heard by my mind and reason, it was in early school years. Many years passed by but this music was with me all of my creative years and the biggest part of my life.
Q- When You did realize Youself as a guitarist of a legendary Tevtonic band? A- It happened after a trip to a big metal fest in Equador when I knew all the tech stuff and participated in rehearsals, photo and video sessions.
Q- Why did Stephan and Igor left the band? A- Stephan has big problems with his back, sadly. Igor has a family and kids, moreover he has his own project- and it's hard for him to participate in long- lasting tour.
Q-What can You say about another new guitar- Kasperi Heikinnen A- My colleague Kasperi is an excellent guitarist. As we discovered , we have already worked together on the same stage when he came to Russia with GammaRay and I was a member of a supporting band Shadow Ghost. So it was easy for me to got a mutual play with him.Just on the first day we learned all the material in hotel room so we are sure that we can play greatly together.
Q- What can You say about him personally? A- I can proudly say that now I am a member of international band. Kasperi is a Finn at his best with "cool" temper. And the drummer , Francesco, is a expressive- tempered Italian. Moreover, we had 2 Germans living in Spain and me, just a guy from Russia.
Q- Tell us about industry of rock music in different countries. A- In Finland hard and heavy is the mainstream. You can hear " tender" rocking guitars everywhere on TV and radio.I can say for sure that it is not the ideal situation- because rock is mostly an event of protest and underground. In Germany they have different situation, times of top- rocking are far away though club life is rich by variety of bands and annual rock-fests.In Italy situation with metal is poor - just like in Russia.

Not at all So some more moments- Q- The news about You as the new guitarist was announced when You already had been working on the new material in studio. What was the reason of the delay? A- It is natural - the band was changing one of its basic parts and they wanted to be sure in their dicision. Q-As You said previously, though Your cariier was rather long-lasting, You still have very many thing to learn. Did You learn anything in UDO already or may be they took anything from You? A- In all the spheres of life Germans are very punctual and pedantic, and it is worth learning this attitude from them. Of cause it touches the music sphere as well. All stages of the musicall process , starting from song writing and finishing with a choice of stage-wear and stage-acccessories- all of it is strictly controlled. As for me , I am a man of principles and discipline - but it is impossible for me to hide my Russian temper. This far I am the youngest band-member so I hope I will play my role of "big child of the band" descently. Q- I think that it is very interesting how You were developing Your cariier. A-It all started with a father^s guitar - I found it on a wardrobe.Than it was a school band, where I was a drummer. After that- my own mand Everlost and ShadowHost,Epidemia,Master, Zemliane ( Earthmen),Blaze Bailey and Paul Di Anno. I can say about hundreds of concerts in half-empty clubs in Moscow, smoked-to-death restaurants, then posch and high class restaurants, big sport arenas, corporative parties for government officers and finally full stadiums....I can spend hours and hours talking about how difficult all of this was. Q- Did You enrich Your music skill in working with world class bands? A- For sure I did. As for skill of performing , I learned almost all of my guitar tricks as a guitar player in scholl and in instute years. But as a musucian I was influenced by the bands in with I participated. Q- Will Your extreme vocal ne used in UDO? A-Yes, even on the coming Steelhammer -album I participated in back-vocals. Q- What is the attitude of the band to Russia? A- They love the country very much and I think that it is mutual. As for travelling they preffer trainride- though as for me I am sick-and tired from all of these long trairides on tours. Q- Many of our people believe in destiny, in providence- in God. Do You think that we are responsible for all of the life or there is always anybody to blame? A- I think that we all have our destiny- but we can make the dicisions living the destined life. So its our own choice.

Funny detail about Kasperi. When UDO played in Helsinki on Mission No X tour we saw Kasperi there in the audience too and I went to say hello to him and thanked his marvellous guitar playing when he replaced Henjo Richter in Gamma Ray. He thanked me of thanking him and his playing.
