just saw this on Drudge.... sweden is moving to a cashless economy?!... (AP) STOCKHOLM - Sweden was the first European country to introduce bank notes in 1661. Now it's come farther than most on the path toward getting rid of them. "I can't see why we should be printing bank notes at all anymore," says Bjoern Ulvaeus, former member of 1970's pop group ABBA, and a vocal proponent for a world without cash. The contours of such a society are starting to take shape in this high-tech nation, frustrating those who prefer coins and bills over digital money. In most Swedish cities, public buses don't accept cash; tickets are prepaid or purchased with a cell phone text message. A small but growing number of businesses only take cards, and some bank offices — which make money on electronic transactions — have stopped handling cash altogether. "There are towns where it isn't at all possible anymore to enter a bank and use cash," complains Curt Persson, chairman of Sweden's National Pensioners' Organization. www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-57399610/sweden-moving-towards-cashless-economy/

BTW, it was a cultural shock when we were in Sweden. My dad's relatives (in Sweden) said that the busses don't accept cash, but you'll have to buy the ticket in advance. At some bus stops there were automaton where to buy a ticket. You could buy the ticket also from some kiosks/convenience stores. I buy some things by card, but still I like to use "real" money.

It really sounds very promicing- no need to have papers.
But there is the other side. Total control. What was man doing and where. What did he buy.
Moreover, he can be "turned off" distantly from single center by blocking his cards. Bank systems are out of national control. Like US Fed- private system, "controlled" by some members of government.
They controll global finance.
And its just a first step. Then there will be all the passports in plastic or in chip like NFC. It will be global dictatorship.
Cash is a guarantee of freedom. We must efford this expence.

Yes, liberalism looks like another mask of hidden dictatorship of sin.
Last week in Saint Petersburg the law finally prohibited propaganda of homosexualism.
Liberals or "human right watch", LGBT tried to say that they will patrol by schools (!) to show protest. But they didn^t dare to force the law.

It's true it's going in the direction of LESS cash! As always there are two sides of the coin (even though if we're cashless, haha, bad joke)
Of course "big brother" watches us when we use our cards... But it happens when we surf the net as well and on many other places... And sometimes the banks are down and so... Your card could be captured or copied by the cashmachine... However I think it's quite comfortable to use my card and just pay for the amount of money I use at every single time. Also, very long time ago, I lost a wallet with too much money in it and if I had been a carduser by that time I could have easily called the bank to turn my card off... And that buses and some other places don't take cash anymore is simply just because to protect the busdrivers because nobody wants to rob for example a bus without money...

I think we still do need cash. I'm afraid people reject that "total control" from the "big brother". I'm also afraid many services wont need cash anymore (taxi, bus and transports...). Hope we also can have the chance to use the cash for sooooooo long It would seem whe still can keep some freedom in our hands.

+1. In past, people used precious coins- a fair way - sliver, copper or gold for food or work. Later , coins became non-precious metal and paper bank notes. So government went out of control- they could print paper money and emit them. Its easy to print paper money -and its impossible to print gold. Its easy to cancel paper money - and its impossible to cancel gold. Now the next step is on- virtual electronic money- population get 0-s and 1-s instead of money. Population gets under total control- but bankers got no responsibility. Its very simple to block personal plastic card- noone can block golden coin. People get card for gold- Bank gets real gold for plastic-
