Hi from SPAIN, brothers of "U.D.O.-MANIA" I open this discussion because I can´t accept nor undertand why this for me excellent LP, one of my favourites, is really buried for the band. It was really the first LP composed by Udo and his band and they show that the could compose really heavy metal killer tracks as the first LP "Animal House", written by Accept. From the total-killer-HEAVY-METAL-bomb "Don´t look back" (I remember when I listened at the beach, with some friends in a tape... when the album was released, I really was knocked out!!!), a song Accept would die for composing, to "Break the rules", an actitude declaration, or an himn like "We´re history"... and the "B" side (have the vinyl) with "Street of fire", what a chorus!!! "Lost Passion", what a progression!! the ballad "Sweet little child" really fantastic, and the hardrocking "Catch my fall"... really good songs of "Old style Heavy Metal" that I really prefer than the actual stuff, so "Modern and Cybernetic" sometimes.... I really miss songs of this LP in the live shows of the band, one or two at least What do you opine? MEAN MACHINE 1989 1. Don't Look Back 2. Break the Rules 3. We're History 4. Painted Love 5. Mean Machine 6. Dirty Boys 7. Streets on Fire 8. Lost Passion 9. Sweet Little Child 10. Catch My Fall 11. Still in Love With You Udo Dirkschneider : Vocals Mathias Dieth : Guitar Andy Susemihl : Guitar Thomas Smuszynski : Bass Stefan Schwarzmann : Drums

You're not alone with your opinion. I don't understand either why they don't play songs from Mean Machine. Udo even somehow promised that they would play songs from Mean Machine on Dominator tour. That didn't happen. I think I am an exception to the rule when I write this: I prefer Mean Machine over Animal House anytime. One reviewer in Finland when making the review of Mean Machine said that now the band U.D.O. really made good work. He also continued that he felt like Udo and the band members were on leash on Animal House album and now with Mean Machine they really broke loose. I really love Don't Look Back and to me it is the best speed track of U.D.O. Now a trip to gig history: when U.D.O. supported Ozzy on Mean Machine tour, here's the setlist they played in Finland: 1. Don´t Look Back 2. Animal House 3. Break The Rules 4. Coming Home 5. Painted Love 6. Mean Machine 7. We´re History 8. Dirty Boys 9. Fast As A Shark 10. They Want War Source: www.udofinland.com/helsinki89.htmlPs. You have got a cool avatar!

Both "Animal" and "Mean" are the same good stuff!! "Animal" is brilliant, because we can´t forget was written by ACCEPT members, and contains a collection of killer tracks, but "Mean" doesn´t nothing to envy. For me both albums are at the same level. I really love Don't Look Back and to me it is the best speed track of U.D.O. YESSSSSS!!!! Total agree!!!! The first time I heard it I could´t believe and put it on and on and on many times... It is "Fast as a shark sister" ;D Now a trip to gig history: when U.D.O. supported Ozzy on Mean Machine tour, here's the setlist they played in Finland: 1. Don´t Look Back 2. Animal House 3. I ENVY YOU YO THE LIMIT!! That´s a really incredible set list, obviously in 1989 only had edited the two first albums, but another good thing was that Udo didn´t use many ACCEPT songs, only 1 or 2 (like in "Giants of Rock" 1991 in Helsinki, only 2). Now he abuses too much of ACCEPT stuff, he had many own good tracks to play live. Ps. You have got a cool avatar! THANKS!! It´s my tribute to this GREAT ALBUM!! Yours is GREAT too, "I´m a rebel"

That's it! Now we have another Brother here on the forum who says .U.D.O. should play less ACCEPT tunes on gigs and should vary the setlist more often... There are so many fans in the world thinking like this and the band just dosen't hear our voices... I myself also miss the old stuff on concerts (if they ever come to Hungary) and also prefer it more than this modern "laptopmetal"... (The expression "laptopmetal" is from Wolf Hoffmann )

i think that the style of the music on those early albums don't fit the band so well now. especially the guitar playing. i won't go any further! i would LOVE to hear them play one of my all time favorite u.d.o. songs "painted love" but i don't think that's going to happen anytime soon!

Just love the intro of dont look back ;D!! And I think Dirty Boys is a killer track on the album. Someone should "ask u.d.o." why they don't play songs from Mean machine (and Timebomb) wich they have "promised"

The first U.D.O. album I've listened. Not the best for me, but there are some masterpieces: Lost Passion, Mean Machine, We're History...

YES MAN!! Really good songs!! I´d like the band returns to this kind of sound, style and image like those days Sorry, I´m an "old style Heavy Metal Man" ;D I really tired to see them wearing military o ciber-warriors clothes. Like SAXON said: "Denim And Leather!!!" I know it´s very difficult, sadly Udo loves Rammstein They could play live "Don´t look back", "Lost Passion" and "Break the rules" That´s a track, and an image!!!

For me MM is the first UDO album and it differs from Animal House musically very much. It fact , in 1989 MM was an opening for me. Udo"s originality was more concentrated in this album then in Accept. I have this album in several editions

it's the third best album from the band ! Nothing similar have been made in the second era ! The devolution has been going on now for so long ! it would be wise to follow Scorpions to stop it on the top . Jeno

Hell no, stopping is out of the question. The band is now on top form as far as live playing is concerned and Udo has got his voice back.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ i second that motion! udo's voice is in such prime shape right now, it'd be a shame to stop!

UDO STOPPING? ? NOOOOOOOOOO MY GOD!!!! I think he can going on a few years, his voice has good health, but we have to admitt that the band in this tour is playing the songs one tone below (they have the guitars and bass sharpened in "D" instead of "E"... Udo already can´t go very high tones
