It is time to make a thread like this. mika didn't want to make it so I have to. 2023 wasn't the strongest year for me as far as metal albums releases go. I had two fav albums and one of them is not even metal... Burning Sun the band founded by our very own pzoltan haven't brought anything new under the Sun but their debut album is a killer record anyway. One great song after other, great vocals, awesome solos, catchy melodies... Listened to this album a lot last year and I know I will listen to it many times. Cannot wait the successor of Wake of Ashes. Way to go Burning Sun! The non-metal album I fell in love last year was Novotopia by a very nice multiinstrumentalist gentleman from England called Brett Lewis. Brett made a tribute to the one and only Mike Oldfield and his musical milestone album Tubular Bells. Well, Novotopia is not a ripoff even though it is built on a piano riff very similar to the emblematic opening melody of Tubular Bells. Novotopia is a long instrumental journey through feelings and moods. This gem was the soundtrack of my autumn of 2023. Another fav album which I strangely re-discovered in 2023 was Iron Maiden's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son album... Well, I listened to this record back then when it was released but never really liked it... Until last summer when the title track unexpectedly came to my way on a family party. Arriving home after that party the first thing I did was to download the full album (I have bought the CD since then) and listened to it again and again. I consider this album a perfect metal record. There's not a single weak or average song on it.

this should be interesting. let me check out what caught me last year. these are in no particular order... * Lovebites - Judgement Day. a great unknown album. each girl is an incredible musician. * KK's Priest - The Sinner Rides Again. this album is good. i was expecting more and i'm still kind of upset that Les Binks wasn't included in this band. Ripper's voice is actually the highlight of this band. he's frigging amazing in my opinion. * Overkill - Scorched. I really like Overkill and while this isn't as great as The White Devil Armory, it's still a cool album. * Anthem - Crimson & Jet Black. This is my favorite album of 2023. everything and everyone is so killer in this band. * Iron Savior - Firestar. i've always liked this band. this album doesn't disappoint even though it's not especially great, it's still a good listen. * U.D.O. - Touchdown. another great album from our mighty Udo. what can i say, it's pretty d**ned good! * Extreme - Six. i'm not crazy about the voice in this band, but the guitar and drums are killer. * Shakra - Invincible. i really like this band and this album is no letdown. it's good hard rock and great music to drive to. * Gloryhammer - Return To The Kingdom Of Fife. the new singer is just ok. nowhere near the personality of the original guy. still a decent album though. * Mystic Prophecy - Hellriot. very good album with some real memorable songs. * Steel Panther - On The Prowl. these guys have run their course with me, but this album is still ok. the jokes and everything are still all the same. * Wig Wam - Out Of The Dark. very very very good album. i'm so glad these guys got back together.

My so called list is coming up little by little. Two albums got my attention that I liked very much: Primal Fear made a good record which I think was the best album released in 2023. However not all the songs are good, but there are couple diamonds there. Majesty called it quits. So this is their last album. I think this is the best album they did.

Trond Holter, the guitarist of Wig Wam is 58 years old. It is about 10 years ago that I even know this guy existed. I really dig his way of playing the guitar. Well, some people get maturer later than some.

This is really good topic for a guy who have only listened the latest UDO and the 3 re-recorded Bonfire classics from last year. 🫣

I think...that for me the best song (instrumental is) by the Finnish band Excalion Keitele. So it is not the best album, but the song is for me the best that came out in 2023: My list of the albums of 2023 will continue...

Honorable mention to the newest Anthem album. They are not the new Loudness, but they are pretty good.

Most of my favorites have been mentioned but y'all are leaving out this masterpiece.
Roadwolf - Midnight Lightning
Imagine the singer from Nazareth fronting 80s Judas Priest.

Oh yes! 😛 Not surprised.
I think this instrumental appeals to Finns, because it has typical Finnish folk music elements.
