how do you "catch" pneumonia?

Pneumonia is a bacterial or viral infection of the lung. Basically, your lungs have sections in them that filter the air and deliver oxygen to the blood. These sections start out as bronchi (inflammation of the bronchi is termed bronchitis) and get more refined. Pneumonia is infection of the deepest bronchi. If you have bacterial pneumonia, which it appears I do, basically a part of your lung turns into a pus/mucus ball until you take antibiotics to kill the infection. Fortunately, it's not really something that you can pass to another person unless they are immunocompromised. Bacterial pneumonia often happens when the bacteria that are in your nasal passages and throat overgrow for one reason or another (e.g., stress, smoking) and travel down to the lung to infect it.
There is also community-acquired pneumonia vs. atypical pneumonia vs. nosocomial (hospital or nursing home acquired pneumonia). I have community-acquired pneumonia, which is the most common form. Atypical pneumonia is also called "walking pneumonia" because you don't seem that sick. Nosocomial pneumonia is the really bad stuff, because you can only get it in a hospital or nursing home, and the bacteria is generally the kind that is resistant to many antibiotics, so this type of pneumonia is particularly dangerous.
Hopefully, this is all you'll ever need to know about pneumonia.

Thanks Tomcat!
After a couple of doses of antibiotics and puffing on an inhaler for the first time in my life, I think I am feeling a tad better today. Still coughing up green awfulness, but maybe a little better.

feeling poor today. just run down and worn out. have a long weekend of working for myself so i'll get no rest at all I would hope that you're still feeling better than I am, although today is the first day that I can honestly say that I am feeling a bit better. I haven't wanted to either sleep or cough every moment since I've woken up.

The Scorpions show is getting closer and closer We didn't get a place for over night for the Scorpions gig from the hotels nearby. We need to look for other places. We buy the tickets right away if we find a place to stay over night.

Good luck Mika! Seems like I won't come home after work tomorrow. Gonna go to the gig right after work. Fortunately Budapest is not so far from our hometown so we don't have to spend the night there. Right now - after repairing the washbasin successfully - I'm proud of myself
