My Golf had the same problem when its ignition switch broke down. Sometimes it worked, but sometimes not. Something has to be replaced, that's for sure. You need to find a good car electrician.

Yep man... Take care of mechanics and car electricians You know, this problem can be solved just by replacing a couple of cables or switches (which are really cheap). Don't be fooled by some "smart guy" in the car repearing center. I've been really lucky with my mechanic. He is trustworthy 100%. Sometimes he did not accepted my money because he checked the car and did not find any problem!!! It's true!!! A friend of mine recommended me his workin' place and always get my car there for regular checkings or if I have a problem I can't solve on my own Best of lucks with your car man

if either of the battery terminals are corroded, then that could be the issue. very simply fixed. if not, it could still be the battery though. just because it puts out the correct voltage doesn't mean anything. it needs to be able to crank out the amps. if some of the plates inside the battery are bad, or broken, then it could do what is happening to you. how old is the battery? if it's more than 2 years old, i'd start there.

Yep John, that's another way Sometimes battery f*cks it all up and, of course, it's the easiest & cheapest solution

all of the auto-parts stores here will check batteries for free. just bring it in and they put in on their machine. that's what i would do.

My Golf had the same problem when its ignition switch broke down. I think this may be the problem. I don't know anything about cars but my brother does. He said that the problem could be due to starter solenoid problem. We should look into it this weekend. Thanks Tomcat for worrying about the problem.

I had experience in owning of these cars- and for both of them it means reparing After turning the key- ( or pressing the knob)- If starter works, sound of spinning starter must be heard. If periodic knock is on and no sound of spinning starter is heard - the battery has low voltage- it must be sharged. So- 1. battery 2. starter If the starter works but car does not start- the problem variants 3. no fuel 4. ignition candles 5. electric cables are corroded or shortaged- but its the last possible variant

Grrr...I tried to start the car today....and it didn't start, not even for one time. Battery is btw not a problem in my case. The problem is in the start engine with 99,9% certainty. If I can start the car tomorrow and get and replace the start engine, the problem is history.
