I couldn't find a thread like this. Maybe I am becoming blind or so...Anyway here's my list. I made my list with the impression I have of them. I am planning to do the same kind of review of UDO albums as I did with Accept albums. However that means an intensive listening to those UDO albums. It is going to be interesting to see how my opinions differ after listening to those albums compared to this evalutation without listening to them.
1) Mastercutor
I simply love this album. I didn't expect anything and then it happened that the magic was there again. The first place may change in some years, but at the moment I love this album the most.
2) Man And Machine
Maybe this album's place is due to the marvellous Man And Machine tour. Those songs rocked live. And to my ears this album is the most Accept-like UDO record. (Animal Instinct, Private Eye, Like A Lion, Hard To Be Honest...)
3) Faceless World
U.D.O. goes pop and they do it well. When this record came out I didn't like it first. I was in the army when this was released. The change of the direction was so radical after Mean Machine, so that it took some time to get used to it. Blitz Of Lightning, Heart Of Gold, Trip To Nowhere, Restricted Area, Future Land to name some of my faves.
4) Mean Machine
Oh yeah. The best speed metal track U.D.O. has made is in the form of Don't Look Back. This album is full of sheer power and it has a beautiful ballad Sweet Little Child.
5) Solid
Cool comeback album! I didn't expect much after the lame Accept album Predator. Ofcourse the composers were mostly different on this UDO album, but I thought that Udo and Stefan had become fans of softer music as well. Actually there isn't a really weak track on this album.
6) Holy
Again I find some kind of similarities with Accept on this one. Dancing With An Angel and Back Off are the songs which I don't like. The overall feeling of this album is cool.
7) Thunderball
This album is kind of shattered. However I like to listen to some songs in a row and feel that the songs are so cool, but if I listen to this album as a whole cd, then it lacks coherence. Blind Eyes, Thunderball, Pull The Trigger, The Land Of The Midnight Sun and The Bullet And The Bomb are good songs.
8) Animal House
When this came out I was amazed how good this record was. It has its moments but I have somehow grown out of it as in the scale of UDO albums. It's a good record but UDO has made better ones like Mean Machine for example.
9) No Limits
I know Juho loves this album. It is not bad. It has something which I don't like so much. Maybe it is the production or...
10) Timebomb
Sorry guys...
I don't know why I don't like this album so much. Let me put it this way: some people don't like Death Row album by Accept, I love it very much and it is as much difficult for me to understand why some people don't like Death Row as it is difficult to some people not to understand why someone doesn't like Timebomb.
Yeah I know it was a tangled explanation. ;D
11) Mission No X
The appropriate name would be Mission No Eleven. ;D The computerized drums disturb me so much on this record as is the case also with the bad compositions. It was a stupid thing to even release this album. Bla, bla, however two songs I like very much and they are 24/7 and Primecrime On Primetime. I name this album as a Laboratory album because it so clean and sterile. ;D
